Poultry for Life

Myself, I've been breeding and raising American Gamefowl and Oriental Gamefowl (both of which are said to have been used in the development of the Buckeye) the majority of my life; roughly 20 years now. I've been involved with poultry in one way or the other since birth, my father loved exhibiting Brahma and Black Rosecomb Bantams. It’s been well noted that I've always looked down upon the fancy breeds for their lack of vigor, health, and overall disposition. With the Buckeyes however, I have found that they act like little gamecocks and present themselves much in the same manner (they are a very proud fowl); with the exception of bitter hatred toward each other. Buckeyes darkened our doorstep when my daughter, Sydney, began expressing interest in raising them as a 4-H project for the local Junior County Fair. Sydney started exhibiting Buckeyes in the winter of 2009. Not knowing what to really expect, she began with the APA Junior Class shows and now (16 years of age) competes in Open Class competition with adults much older than herself. From the very beginning, Sydney has had amazing success.
